Requirements the Chevening Scholarship

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Required language: English.
  • Eligible Countries: The scholarships are designed for nationals of countries eligible for Chevening funding. The official website contains a complete list of nations eligible for Chevening scholarships.
  • After completing your scholarship, you must stay in your home country for at least two years.
  • To be accepted into a postgraduate program at a UK institution, you must have completed all undergraduate degree requirements at the time of your application. This is equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK, but it may differ depending on the topic and university you choose.
  • Have a minimum of two years of work experience, or 2,800 hours.
  • Ensure that you receive an unconditional offer from one of these options by July. Apply to three different UK institutions that meet the necessary requirements.

A scholarship from Chevening is not eligible to you if you:

  • Have dual or British citizenship, unless you are applying from Hong Kong and are either a BN(O) holder or a citizen of a British Overseas Territory.
  • Have worked for Her Majesty’s Government, are a former employee, are related* to an employee, or have worked for any of the following since Chevening applications opened in the last two years: British embassies or high commissions, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade, the Ministry of Defence, or the Home Office.
  • Have refugee status in a country where CHEVING does not occur. Scholarship winners may apply if they are citizens of a country eligible for Chevening or if they are refugees in that country.
  • Have money from a scholarship given by the UK government for their time studying there.
  • A Chevening Partner Award cannot be granted to you by an entity for which you currently work, have previously worked, or are related by blood. However, candidates who work at Chevening Partner organisations, have previously worked there, or are related to someone who works there are eligible to apply.

  • Create a profile.
  • Before you start the application, complete your profile by entering your personal information, saving it, and verifying it.
  • Complete the quiz to see if you are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Prepare the following files and complete the application by entering the needed information.
    • ID or a passport paper.
    • Academic records have been finalised.
    • The ability to speak and comprehend English is essential for up to three recommended study courses.
    • Unconditional offers for suggested study programs (up to three). You must make at least one unconditional offer by July.
    • Citations: If you are accepted to an interview, you will need to present two references.
